Having a Look…29.04.2013
A windy old day and plenty of tide still so I figured it might be worth heading inland and fishing the harbour to use up the leftover ragworm in some clear water and stick some lures out for bass. Light fishing with my Xtraflexx lure rods and LP magnet baitcasters was the order of the day, a 13cm jointed plug and an 11cm minnow the choice of lure. Wilmy was up for a play and had never been to Lake Lothing, a mullet venue par excellence for those that can catch them (not me) and my preferred goby ground. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, can I make movie stars?
We wasted a bit of time with coffee first and then set off for harbour road, launching off the slip under the gaze of a couple of pot smokers after a quick look along the shoreline.
A slow troll past the historic ships moored up, the Excelsior, MTB 102 and so on and then down to Mutford Lock, catching the jetty past the railway bridge – the only pull of the day!
Waste of time. I reeled in and went off to take a few pictures of the wrecks, revisiting the Yellowtail, the structure collapsing in on itself finally and then the Probe. The Yellowtail means nothing to most of the people who read this but certainly Dronski has memories of her even though Lake Lothing was secondary to his usual haunt of Oulton Broad way back when cameras shot in black and white with some stuff called film…
Nada. Time to do some more trolling then and look for a spot to anchor up…
Rods out…
Wilmy ‘has a walk’ and then heads back out…
We headed back to the main channel near the Excelsior slip and dropped anchor, both tied together, and sat there lobbing ragworm out for the crabs.
At least there was some life around though no flounder, eels or early bass. Could almost feel each other’s pulses!
A couple of pleasant, if dull and pointless, hours passed and we headed off for lunch instead. A month early I guess.
